Aubry’s fight against Histiocytosis
Donation protected
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind for my sister and her family. Their daughter, Aubry, had a CT scan of her head on July 6th and was diagnosed with an orbital mass. She was quickly admitted to the hospital and underwent multiple MRIs, X-Ray studies and a PET scan. After evaluation by several oncologists as well as a surgical biopsy with neurosurgery and plastic surgery, she has been diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH).
LCH is a rare condition that can damage tissue or cause lesions to form in one or more places in the body. LCH cells are a type of dendritic cell that normally help the body fight infection.
Update 8/1/2023
Aubry and her family flew to Cincinnati over the weekend to meet with the histiocytosis specialists at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (CCH). They met with Dr. Bartlett to discuss alternative options for treatment other than chemotherapy. After a great deal of consideration and a detailed discussion with Aubry, they have collaboratively decided to proceed with inhibitor therapy for treatment. Inhibitor therapy at CCH has had a 100% success rate over the past 8 years whereas chemotherapy success rate for for complete remission is 70%. Aubry will have to take a pill once a day for at least 2 years. She will be required to have frequent PET scans and cardiac echocardiograms for monitoring. Aubry will be monitored locally in Florida but will also be required to fly to CCH several times per year.
Aubry is a beautiful and smart social butterfly. She is a competitive dancer and maintains A-B honor roll in school. She is well-loved by so many!!
Danielle and her husband, Bryce, are going to take some time off work to care for her. As you know, medical expenses will add up fast and will be coming in for many months. Any donations are appreciated by the family
