Yen Tran's Cancer Fund

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kathleen La and I created a GoFundMe account for my mom Yen Tran.

Around July of last year, my mom started feeling extremely fatigued with slight exertion. She noted a tingling sensation in her hands and legs. However, after seeing her primary doctor she believed it was high calcium levels and anemia. Treated with a lot of fluid and iron supplement. Except, as time progressed my mom's symptoms did not get better. She began to feel pain in her lower back that resulted in her laying in bed whenever she was not working. My mom saw her primary physician and explained the back pain she was having but they could not find a problem.

And then Christmas came. We planned to visit our extended family in Oregon for the holidays and say goodbye to my great grandpa before he left for Vietnam permanently. However, the trip was extremely excruciating for my mom. The day after Christmas my aunt noticed my mom was extremely pale and convinced my mom to go to the ER. They discovered that she had two fractures along her lower back. They suspected she had bone cancer but needed more labs in order to confirm.

On New Year's Eve, the doctors came in and told us the final diagnosis...Multiple Myeloma. For those of you who do not know, Multiple Myeloma is cancer of the bone marrow. Without treatment, people can survive 7 months. With treatment, people can extend their lives AT MOST ten years. There is currently no cure for multiple myeloma. Multiple Myeloma was the cause of her anemia and high calcium levels. So much calcium had leaked out of her bones that the doctor said areas of her bones were like an egg shell which is why she fractured two of her ribs without major trauma. Because her bones are so fragile my mom has to undergo chemotherapy with two fractured ribs. Surgery to repair the fractured ribs cannot be started until AFTER my mom has reached remission. Remission could be as long as 3 months to 3 years, after which Multiple Myeloma would return.

As a result, my mom is unable to work. Currently we are surviving of off a single income; however, having medical expenses on top of being a family of five we are finding it difficult to make ends meet. In order to give you guys an idea of how much cancer cost I have listed some examples: weekly blood draws ($35), a month supply of chemotherapy pills ($100) in addition to weekly chemotherapy treatments ($65), monthly oncologists visits ($300), and various other medications to prevent complications caused by the chemotherapy and cancer (An example is a pack of 5 nausea patches $100).

We would be grateful for any donation. If you cannot donate all that we ask is for you to share this campaign. We are honestly so appreciative of any support we receive or have received so far.
