As many of you know this July we were hit with the scary diagnosis nobody wants to hear. The dreaded “C” word. Zac was diagnosed with breast cancer which in men is only 1% of breast cancer cases. To say it caught us off guard is a huge understatement! What we thought might be a fatty tumor or simply a swollen gland turned into a life-changing diagnosis. He had a full mastectomy on July 19th with the removal of several affected lymph nodes under the left arm as well. With the lymph nodes being affected which leads to a high-risk for reoccurrence they are treating it very aggressively. He will be undergoing 16 rounds of chemotherapy followed by radiation. It will be a long road but a successful one! We are mentally ready to fight! And we have an amazing support system for which we are truly thankful. What we weren’t prepared for was the financial burden this would bring. We both have great jobs and I carry the insurance for our family but it only goes so far. And with the amount of treatment needed we are able to afford a certain amount above what insurance has been able to cover.
It’s never easy (nor fun) to ask for help or financial support. And I honestly never believed we would be in the situation to need to do so. But Cancer is not easy on you in any way! Not physically, mentally, emotionally, or financially. We are learning this the hard way. We appreciate the love, support, and many prayers that have been lifted up on our behalf.
With much love and thanks,
Zac, Kelli, E, & G
