EDUCATE A GIRL, EMPOWER A WOMAN, CHANGE THE WORLD

GLOBAL CRISIS CALLS FOR GLOBAL SOLIDARITY

The impacts of crises are never gender-neutral, and COVID-19 is no exception. While everyone is facing unprecedented challenges, the virus seems to take advantage of pre-existing inequalities and, according to UN Women and UNDP, the corona pandemic crisis will dramatically increase the poverty rate for women and widen the gap between men and women who live in poverty.

Gender Inequalities and the Feminization of Poverty are Already Real Challenges in Tanzania, where More Than Half of the Female Population Live in Extreme Poverty

Since the beginning of 2019, WEEDO - Women Empowering and Entrepreneurship Development Organization - is working for and with adolescent girls and young women in Kigamboni, Tanzania, to promote sustainable and inclusive growth, to empower women through education and to change communities’ perceptions about stereotyped gender roles.
In our centre, located in a rural area, just outside Dar es Salaam city, we create opportunities for girls and young women who have not previously attended school and who often come from very difficult family backgrounds, by creating safe learning spaces and providing them free classes in sewing, IT, English, entrepreneurship, life skills counseling, parent training and sexual and reproductive health and rights awareness raising activities.
Our work seeks to tackle the root causes of gender inequality,  and overcome barriers that keep girls from reaching their full potential.

When Girls are Educated, Healthy, Self-confident and Empowered, They Have the Knowledge, Skills and Opportunities to Be Positive Change-Makers in Their Families and Communities, Helping to Break the Cycle of Poverty

IT'S TIME TO CHANGE THE WORLD, ONE SMALL ACT OF KINDNESS OF A TIME

Today more than ever, with the coronavirus crisis putting girls at even greater risk of suffering gender-based violence and further marginalization, your support is vital!
Local organizations like WEEDO represent the only way out of poverty for girls like Judith, Mwamvua and Jakline. But if it is true that every one of us can make a difference, only TOGETHER we can make a change!

Education responses to COVID-19 must prioritize the needs of adolescent girls’ and amplify their voices, otherwise there’s risk of reversing the gains that have been made for girls’ education in Tanzania over the last 20 years.

You can be part of an effort to eradicate poverty through gender-responsive education and social protection, supply food and water to the most vulnerable and marginalized women and their families, and ensure that adolescent girls and young women are heard and considered.
With your contribution, we could implement our strategies to reduce, prevent, and hopefully end soon child marriages, unwanted pregnancies and other forms of violence against women.
Help us to continue keeping the girls safe and in a protected environment, where they can grow self-confidence, raise awareness about their rights, and learn new skills that will ensure them a better future.

Education is a Doorway to a Brighter Future for Girls. A Future that They Choose; One in Line with Their Own Dreams
