Help support Molly's medical care
Donation protected
My niece, Molly (24), is currently in a medically-induced coma. Let me back up - on Friday, April 18, Molly was diagnosed with the flu. Her lungs were clear and no meds were required. On Sunday, April 20, she was unable to breathe and was taken to the ER by ambulance to be diagnosed with right-sided pneumonia which had gone septic. Her treatment has been complicated by Type-1 diabetes and a lot of pain, so she was put into a medically-induced coma Sunday night. Early Monday morning, Molly was not improving, so she was transferred to another hospital for a higher level of care and admitted to the shock trauma unit.
Throughout Monday, her mom, Jen, reports that her color and overall appearance have improved and they have been attempting to wean her oxygen with small successes. She's still intubated but holding her own so far! Molly is not out of the woods yet, but we are all hopeful for her continued progress.
Anyone who has had any medical treatments can read the above paragraphs and know that her physical recovery isn’t the only thing that will be associated with “long hauls.” The medical bills are going to be… a lot. Jen and Molly’s dad, Andrew, are working to see how much her responsibility will be through her insurance, but with intensive care and two ambulance rides, I can only imagine - which leads us to why we’ve gathered here.
I don’t think anyone is going to disagree when I say that no 24-year-old should be saddled with the medical debt that is accruing as I type this. Any amount you can donate towards Molly’s care is very much appreciated and no amount is too small. She has a long road ahead of her and we’d like to help make it a little easier, if possible.
Jen is providing regular updates and I will put them here for you to follow along.
