Yiran Fan Memorial
Donation protected
On January 9th, Yiran Fan’s life was tragically taken in an act of senseless violence.
Yiran came from China to the University of Chicago in 2014 to study in the financial mathematics program, having already completed a bachelor’s degree in finance at Peking University and a master’s degree in financial engineering at the University of Cambridge. After earning a second master’s degree from UChicago in 2015, he served as a research professional at the Fama-Miller Center for Research in Finance. He was in the fourth year of a joint Booth/Economics Ph.D. program in financial economics and was hoping to propose his dissertation later this year.
Yiran was brilliant, kind, and always willing to help his fellow colleagues. He has touched so many lives and left lasting impressions on our hearts. During this difficult time, we remember Yiran and all of his contributions. He is truly missed and will be forever remembered.
While the University is committed to assisting the family of Yiran Fan at this difficult time, we understand the desire of the community to support the bereaved family directly by gifts. As Yiran’s advisor, I am coordinating this fundraiser and at its conclusion, I will transfer all donations directly to an account managed by his parents, Chenggang Fan and Chunzhi Xu. In the wake of these tragic events, they will be able to use the donations at their discretion to honor Yiran’s memory.
Thank you,
