Yiyili Aboriginal Community School Fundraiser
Football is life! Our children love to play it, our adults love to play it. We have a men's and women's football team that many of the teenagers in the community play for. We train on gravel, often in bare feet. Our oval is also used for things like training for athletics carnivals. Our children just love it when get to go into town (Fitzroy Crossing or Halls Creek) and run on grass. We are hoping to raise money so we can begin the process of getting our gravel oval fenced (as Yiyili is on a cattle station) and grassed.
The Laarri Arts Centre, a community-run gallery, is a vital pillar supported by the school. It serves as a nurturing space for local artists to preserve and showcase their cultural heritage, while also providing them with a sustainable source of income. To further propel the growth of the Laarri Arts Centre into a self-sustaining enterprise, we are actively seeking a dedicated vehicle to support the manager. This vehicle will play a crucial role in expanding outreach, establishing connections with artists and patrons, and ensuring the smooth operation of the centre. Your contribution towards this endeavour will help us create a thriving arts community that fosters cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and artistic expression. Join us in building a sustainable future for the Laarri Arts Centre and its talented artists!
Bike Rescue: We are dedicated to empowering high school students by providing them with hands-on learning experiences in mechanical skills, self-regulation, and education. However, operating in remote areas like the Kimberley presents challenges, particularly in terms of the high expenses involved in acquiring materials. This programme allows our students to repair bikes and sell them or keep them for personal use. The social enterprise is incorporated into the classroom as a mechanism to teach literacy and numeracy in a real-life hands-on manner.
We have an exciting project in the works where high school students will craft delicious coffees, smoothies, and more for our valued tourists. To bring this vision to life, we're repurposing a trailer and relocating an aging coffee machine to serve as the heart of our hospitality hub. While the machine is nearing its end-of-life stage, we believe in making the most of available resources.
Do you want to join me in making a difference? Every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to the community.
