Funeral cost for Baby Theo

Donation protected
I’ve set up this page on behalf of my great-nephew Theo and his parents who really need some help right now for financial assistance and ongoing support Theo needs.

Baby Theo arrived 4 weeks early, on 8 Jan 2023 in Brisbane, first baby for parents Emma and Mason. Our little warrior Theo has since faced many challenges, undergoing six surgeries by the time he was ten months old - his first surgery was at just 3 weeks of age!!

At 4 weeks, Theo was diagnosed with Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome (chronic kidney failure). Emma and Mason began treatment for Theo immediately with the Royal Children’s Hospital, who continuously worked hard to keep Theo comfortable while waiting for Theo to meet the height and weight requirements for an unavoidable kidney transplant. As if that wasn’t enough though, a post-surgery MRI showed signs of a neurological disorder. In a heartbreaking rollercoaster, Emma and Mason went from looking forward to Theo attending school after his transplant to being told he’s unlikely to survive his teenage years.

Theo was diagnosed with ‘Mitochondrial Disease’. The Mitochondria, perform many necessary functions for cell metabolism with the most important being energy-production (the ability to break down carbohydrate, fat and oxygen and turn it into fuel). At present, there is no cure. Treatment involves slowing down the progression of the illness but will not reverse any damage that has already occurred.

In Theo’s case, his development is already severely impacted and his ability is equivalent to a 3 month old (he is unable to talk or support his own head or body weight in any capacity). But Theo is the happiest baby you’ll ever meet, smiling and laughing despite enduring constant medical scrutiny and treatments.

In January 2024, just after Theo’s first birthday, Emma and Mason moved to Victoria to be nearer to Mason’s family.

Baby Theo's journey is coming to a close as there is no cure for his condition. Your generous donation (large or small) will help provide for his needs as his health deteriorates. Funds so far have helped the family purchase a much-needed car to fit the NDIS approved car seat, and other essential equipment. We now look to providing day-to-day assistance for Theo's medical expenses while Emma remains his primary carer, and savings towards funeral costs which we expect to need by June 2025.

If you are able to contribute anything to help us it would mean the world, even if it’s just sharing our story. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful beyond words for any assistance that can provide some essential comfort for Theo and his battle against his conditions.
