Harold “Smitty” Herbert Smith was born on December 30th, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama. He passed away March 21st, 2016. He was a man of God, a husband, a father, a football player, a golfer, a veteran, and a friend drafted into the 24th Infantry Division of the United States Army and later served in the National Guard during the Berlin Crisis.
He was very well known for his ability to make friends with anyone and everyone wherever he went. He took great pride in his family, and loved to talk about us to whoever would listen, whenever he had the chance. In fact, it’s impossible to put into words the love we felt from my dad. He had this personality and spirit about him that you couldn’t help but to love. He wanted to be around us all the time, and he was always ready to drive or ride where ever the destination. He taught me how to be positive and optimistic and find solutions when things felt tough. It was hard to have a bad day while being around my dad; he knew what to say, when to say it and always had a smile on his face. Some of the best laughs I’ve ever had were with my dad. He was more than a father, he was a best friend that I will miss every day.
My dad supported me in any way he could, he was my biggest fan and cheerleader in every aspect of my life. I hope that through this page and the generosity of my loved ones, I will be able to support him and my family. Your donation will contribute to the processing of his remains, funeral expenses, medical bills and family relief. We can’t tell you how much it means to us to have support from friends and family in this heartbreaking time.
