Denis "Denny" Eck, 61, passed away Wednesday morning at Memorial Hospital. Denny was born in South Bend to the late Loren and Lucille Eck on November 12, 1954.

Denny married his high school sweetheart, best friend, and the love of his life, Lynn, on October 21, 1978 at Holy Cross Church in South Bend. Lynn survives Denny along with his loving daughter, Katie Eck (Matt Timm) of Fishers, IN; his son, Bryan (Stacy) Eck, and adoring grandson, Caleb, of South Bend, IN. He is also survived by his brother, Loren (Patricia) Eck, of Fort Wayne, IN; his sister, Rachel (Tom) Myszak, of South Bend, IN; twin sister, Denise (Steve) Hall, of South Bend, IN; and Lorraine (Ken) Wheeler of Vancouver, WA; along with many other close family members.

Denny attended Holy Cross grade school.  He then went on to graduate from LaSalle High School in 1973. After Lasalle, Denny attended Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis.  Denny has always had a strong work ethic. His hard work was evident through his eagerness to take on new and challenging positions. Denny was a Field Service Technician for Materials Handling Equipment Corporation for over 20 years.  Following that, Denny served as the Fleet Maintenance Manager for DHL.  Denny then took on the position as the Lead Mechanic for Aramark Uniform Services.  After his time with Aramark, Denny was offered his dream job as a Group Leader at AM General. Denny and his family were very proud of his abilities as a highly skilled mechanic.

Denny was best known for his beaming smile, infectious laugh, and heart of gold. He was a nurturing husband; patient and attentive father; and doting grandfather. Denny's family meant the world to him. He also loved the outdoors as he was an avid fisherman. Baseball was another passion in Denny’s life.  He was often involved in coaching and helping with Chet Waggoner Little League and Clay JBA baseball.  Whether he was working or relaxing, he was always happiest outside.

In addition to his family, Denny cared greatly about his friends. Everyone was drawn to his charismatic personality and endless generosity.  Denny has several life-long friendships that were developed over the years, many of which grew through time spent with members of M.R. Falcons.  He will be missed by countless close friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

The family is grateful for the kind and gentle care given by the nurses and doctors of Memorial Hospital's Oncology team. They ensured Denny was always comfortable and had the best care possible.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m.  Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN.

Throughout Denny's two year fight against Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer, he has accrued costly medical bills. The family appreciates any assitance you would like to provide.
