Yoga for people seeking international protection
Donation protected
We are raising money to fund a weekly yoga class at Astanga Yoga London for people who have survived modern slavery and/or displacement. The attendees are either in the asylum process or have refugee status.
The class has been running for 5+ years. Over this time we’ve built a strong and supportive community with many participants attending for almost all the time we’ve been running.
We previously provided travel refunds to everyone who attended and had around 15 regular attendees, from various locations across London with many travelling from outside of Zone 6, which as you know is an expensive journey. Sadly our funding has run out so we are trying to raise money to continue the class through crowdfunding.
The money raised will provide travel refunds to our attendees as well as cover the cost of running the class. Many of our participants get a lot of benefits from the class but are unable to fund travel for themselves so we really need to offer support for this!
This is why we need your help
£2250 will fund the class for at least 12 weeks
£120 will pay for one attendee's travel costs so they can practice yoga for 12 weeks
£420 will pay for one attendee's travel costs so they can practice yoga for a year
Here's what some of our attendees said about the class
“Yoga lifts my depression. I come to the class even though it takes me one and a half hours to get there. To move in class is great, it helps me to feel just a little bit better than when I came."
"Yoga helps me keep to the present moment as it keeps my mind in the today. It makes my body feel light. When I first came, I had lots of leg pain and now it’s so much less because of the yoga classes”.
“Yoga helps my mind and my soul. My mind feels calm; my body feels relaxed. I often think, did I, did I really just do that? Did I just do that movement? Sometimes I can’t believe it!."
Any donation you can offer will help!!!
