Yohan's Road to Recovery

My name is Jessie, and I am fundraising to help my boyfriend, Yohan, pay for his medical bills and living expenses while he recovers from surgery to treat blood clots. On Thursday, November 3rd, he was at work and felt his arm starting to lose circulation and feeling, and it started to turn purple.

Despite having just started his new job and not yet qualifying for health insurance through his employer, I encouraged him to go to the emergency room. After many X-rays, imaging and blood tests, the doctors found a very large blood clot in his armpit and upper arm area and several in his lungs. Quickly, we were told that he would need surgery to remove the large clot in his arm. He was immediately placed on a constant IV drip of Heparin to thin his blood and prevent further clots, and stayed overnight in the emergency room before being transferred to the vascular division at MUSC to await surgery.

On Friday, November 4th, he underwent successful blood clot removal surgery and stayed overnight in the hospital for another night. In two weeks, he will require an additional surgery to remove his top left rib bone, creating more space in the area where the clot was removed to ensure another clot does not form.
