York pulling for England.

Hello, we are York tug of war club.
Not many people realise tug of war is a sport, not just a village fair event. However, there has been a tug of war team in York for several years, under various other names like New Earswick and Huntington. The club has moved around various areas trying to find a suitable place to train and build the team.
The club became York tug of war in 2009, with some of those original team members still active members of the team. We have had various levels of success over the years, but 2022 has been the best yet for the club. In June, we travelled to Bedford for the English tug of war association national championships. We went hoping to win a medal. Instead, we did much better, bringing home 3 medals, including our first silver medal in the men's competition.
The brilliant performance by the squad has brought about international recognition. We have been invited to represent England at the upcoming British & Irish championships held in Swansea on the 13th and 14th of August, which is an excellent achievement for our club.
We have also been invited to represent England at the upcoming World championships held in the Netherlands, from Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th of September. This was way beyond our dreams and expectations for the year but is something the whole club is very excited about and training hard towards.
We are a self-funded club that travels all over England for regular competitions, which is very expensive with the fuel price rising constantly.
We are hoping to raise some much-needed funds to help send the team to Swansea and the Netherlands to compete on the international stage.
Thank you for reading.
