Yorkshire 3 peaks for Yorkshire Air Ambulance

On Sunday 2nd July, Richard Holberry went out for a ride with a group of his biker mates as they did most Sundays during the summer. Devastatingly on this particular Sunday, Rich lost control of his motorbike in a low-speed crash.

The crash itself was unremarkable, however Rich and his motorbike skidded into the path of an oncoming car. The car impacted Rich’s spine causing catastrophic life-changing injuries.

Rich suffered multiple breaks in his spine (T7 & T8) fractured multiple ribs, damaged his spinal cord & suffered from a collapsed lung.

The Air Ambulance picked him up from the crash site that day and undoubtably saved his life by rushing him to intensive care at LGI where he spent the next 5 days.

Fortunately Rich’s condition is now stable and he is currently an in-patient at the spinal unit Pinderfields in Wakefield, working incredibly hard at physio to try and regain the use of his legs.

Without the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Rich Holberry would not be alive today so we are now fundraising for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, in Rich’s name.

On Saturday 7th October Rich’s sons, Joe, Harry & Oli Holberry and a group of their friends & family will be walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks and we would be incredibly grateful if you would sponsor him.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is 24-miles (38.6km) round trip route, and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

It is a common misconception that Yorkshire Air Ambulance has government funding and falls under the NHS. This is untrue. Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity that relies heavily on the generosity of the public and organisations to keep the service active.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance needs to raise £19,000 per day to keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulance helicopters maintained and in the air. Please donate what you can afford. Thank you
