Yorktown coach suffering effects of bus crash

On Wednesday, April 26th, a Yorktown Central school bus was hit head on by a car that lost control on Crow Hill Road. The bus driver, two monitors, and two Yorktown students were unfortunately on that bus. One monitor specifically, Jim Martin is currently under intensive care at Westchester Medical Center. Jim has to undergo Hip surgery, as his hip is broken and dislocated. He is currently in the ICU, where he is under traction with a metal rod in his leg. Jim has been involved in the Yorktown community for many years as he coached multiple Boys YAC basketball travel teams, and is loved by many members of the Yorktown basketball community. Being loved on and off of the court, we are saddened by the news of this incident. Jim also spent 15 years coaching at St. Joseph’s School in Bronxville. Basketball is a true labor of love for Jim, he has dedicated many hours on and off the court and is passionate that his kids thrive as athletes and work together and have fun. He doesn’t mind the numerous hours behind the scenes preparing plays, practices and games. Jim is also a family man. He shares his Yorktown home with his wife, daughter, and two dogs. He also has two sons who live in Fleetwood and Brooklyn. If you know Jim off of the court, you not only know him for his dedication, but for his sense of humor, and for his ability to go above and beyond for the people he loves. Jim would do anything for his family and friends, and we are all deeply saddened by this news and are praying for a speedy and full recovery for Jim and everyone involved. We are hoping he can one day get back on the court to share his passion of basketball with the Yorktown community.
