You can help save Sonali's life!

The current economic collapse in the Island nation of Sri Lanka has created a crisis in women's and children’s health. Due to the shortfall of foreign exchange in the country, medical institutions from both the government sector and the private sector are struggling to source much-needed life-saving medical supplies.

Shortages of medical supplies and equipment have torn apart people’s lives. A dire situation now exists for critically-ill women and children, who have had to face heart-breaking suffering and loss of life, all of which could be avoided with a proper supply of medical equipment and drugs.

Sonali (pictured, although this is not her real name for privacy) is one of many children urgently needing medical supplies; in her case, to manage and prevent pediatric kidney failure. Like many, she is in pain and suffering distress while she waits for the drugs she needs to save her kidneys and life. Heart-breaking situations like this are repeated in medical facilities all over Sri Lanka.

In the Teaching Hospital at Peradeniya, Sri Lanka alone, there is an urgent need for an estimated US$ 438,000 worth of the following medicines to save the lives of their patients:

Tacrolimus 0.5mg - 54,000 tablets

Tacrolimus 1mg - 84,000 tablets

Mycophenolate Mofetil 500mg & 250mg - 120,000 tablets each

Erythropoietin 2000IU - 6000 vials

Erythropoietin 4000IU - 6000 vials

One alphacalcidol 0.25 mu.g - 600,000 tablets

We have created this campaign to assist with sourcing these life-saving medicines and to help children like Sonali recover from their renal diseases. We are seeking to raise AU$250,000 to cover the costs of the medicines.

Funds raised in this campaign will be responsibly channeled to source the urgent medications required in the Urology Departments of the public hospitals in Sri Lanka, with priority given to the women and children (being the most vulnerable in society) through our partner ‘Sahana Laboratories’ in Kandy Sri Lanka (‘Sahana' means 'bringing relief').
