Young Burn Survivor Hospital Bills
Donation protected
On March 2nd, 2020 a terrible accident ensued when a loose flame from a gas stove caught on the back of my sweatshirt. Before I knew it, I was engulfed in flames. About 15% of my body (head, neck, arms, and back) had endured 2nd and mostly 3rd-degree burns. I was at the hospital for weeks at the beginning of the COVID crisis in America. I could not see my family or friends during the most painful experience of my life - physically, mentally, and emotionally. After being discharged, I had to go through even more painful dressing changes and was eventually put back into the hospital to try and help the pain. My father lost his job due to this pandemic which was also connected to our health insurance. In the middle of my treatments, I temporarily did not have any health insurance while trying to switch to my mother's plan. Unfortunately, this new health insurance did not have the same benefits as our previous plan.
Due to my health and the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been out of work since February but somehow through all of this, I was still able to graduate university in May. That unfortunately means that I have to start paying my student loans now. Since my dad was laid off because of the coronavirus, my mom (a middle school teacher) is now the sole breadwinner for my household. Needless to say, we are having a very hard time not only dealing with the bare minimum bills but then I have many hospital bills and student loans on top of it. The doctors say that I would benefit from a laser therapy treatment, but that is an additional cost on top of everything that I just cannot afford at the moment. I would really appreciate your help whether that's through sharing my story or donating. Thank you and I hope you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy. I also wanna thank all of the healthcare workers that have helped me over my recovery. -Kara
TRIGGER WARNING! Below I have attached a photo that shows most of the burn:
