Young Alberta Couple Expects CPAM Baby- Need Help

Read the story of this 1/700,000 baby from Medicine Hat, Alberta:




On November 16, 2020, Abigail and Benjamin found out that they were expecting! 4 months after their wedding, at only 18 and 19 years old, they welcomed this news both anxiously and ecstatically! Their families and friends began excitedly helping them prepare for baby!




Fast forward to February 23, 2021- Abigail and Benjamin went to their ultrasound hopeful that they would find out if they were welcoming a son or daughter. Along with the exciting news that baby was a boy, they also found out that he has a condition called CPAM (Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation).




In layman’s terms, their sweet son has a mass on his lung, which is a cluster of cysts. This news obviously came with many mixed emotions and changed plans.




CPAM affects 1/35,000 babies, but 95% of these cases only affect one lobe of the lung. Baby Milner has very little healthy lung tissue in his right lung, so it is extremely likely that more than one lobe is affected.




March 1, 2021 was the first of what will be weekly trips to Calgary for ultrasounds, echocardiograms, high risk pregnancy consultations, meetings with fetal surgeons, etc.




Today we found out that although it’s not the worst case scenario, it’s not far off. Baby boy will need surgery either in-utero or shortly after birth because there is little viable right lung tissue and the possibility of hydrops (when the lung is growing too quickly and puts pressure on the heart vessels, which could potentially cause heart failure).




Please help us remove the financial barriers for Abigail and Benjamin during this tough time. Your donations will go towards a safe, reliable vehicle for their weekly trips from Medicine Hat to the Calgary Maternal Fetal Medicine Centre, Foothills Medical Centre, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital because neither of their older vehicles are up to this task. It was also go towards, gas, lodging, and food.
