Help Minneapolis high school students in Young Peoples Action Coalition replace police in our schools with real community alternatives and transform the education system towards racial justice!

Youth in Minneapolis through Young People's Action Coalition and other community organizations have been waging a campaign to get police out of Minneapolis schools for years. AND WE WON! With the tidal wave of solidarity from the movement for Justice for George Floyd and the movement for black lives more broadly, the Minneapolis School Board finally ended their contract with the Police Department!

But we’re not done yet
With the Minneapolis Police gone, we now have to fight to replace them with genuine alternatives such as restorative justice, more counselors, more staff of color, community ambassadors, and more. Systemic racism is embedded in our schools and communities and it takes long term organizing to change that.

Here’s what we’re doing about it
Minneapolis is in a moment of massive opportunity as we look to create a liberatory model for community safety on all levels. What that will take in schools is well resourced, well supported student organizing to make sure that we build just and transformative ways of handling safety and conflict in schools. Schools are meant to set students up to enter the rest of the world, and these need to be places where students learn practices of restorative justice and collective healing. We are now waging the campaign to build genuine democratic alternatives to police in schools, and the fight for racial justice in the education system more broadly.

You can join us
Support student led organizing! To give students of color and adult facilitators what they need to do this work sustainably, we will be raising $100,000 to fulfill our 2020-2021 school year budget. This money will make possible the crucial relationship building, campaign planning, and movement building needed to transform our education system locally, and be a model for change around the world. Join us!

YPAC is a democratically run youth organization founded by students in 2013 to build an intersectional (social and environmental justice) youth movement in MN. YPAC facilitators (young adults of color) support middle and high school student leaders to build campaigns and fight for social change on the issues that matter most to them. Getting cops out of schools has been our main campaign for years but we organize for many other causes too!
