Young People's Mental Health in Notts and Nottinghamshire
Did you know - young people in the UK have higher mental health need than ever. 1 in 6 young people in England (aged 5 to 16) experienced a mental health problem in 2020, up from 1 in 9 in 2017.
In Nottinghamshire, using national estimates, there are around 10,215 children and young people between the ages of 5 to 16 years that have 'any mental health disorder'.
Base 51 have been working with young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire for over 30 years, providing support to help them recover from trauma and build the best future for themselves.
At Base 51 we support young people's mental health in a variety ways:
- Giving them a safe place where they can make friends, reduce social isolation and talk to our experienced Youth Workers about any issues they are having through our Youth Club
- Providing subsidised counselling for young people struggling with their mental health, giving them a supportive and understanding place to talk.
- Hosting workshops about coping mechanisms, healthy relationships, budgeting, healthy eating and more to help them be prepared for life
- Specialist trauma-based services to support those affected by violent crime, criminal / sexual exploitation, modern slavery and human trafficking
- A safe place for LGBTQIA+ young people with our Outburst programme
The donations from this GoFundMe will support Base 51's Counselling and Youth Club provision, supporting the mental health of hundreds of 11-25 year olds in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire every year.
