Support for Michael Young's Aneurysm Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Dakota, and I've created this GoFundMe for my dad, Mike. Last month in November, he faced a life-altering challenge. A ruptured brain aneurysm. Complicating matters, my dad lacks health insurance and is unable to return to work.
For those who don't know Mike, he's way more than just my dad (though he nails that role too). He's stubborn, sure, but he's also got this killer combo of strength, humor, and kindness. One of my best friend's always says he'd move mountains for you, and it's dead-on. The guy won't ask for help even when he really needs it. (So you can only imagine the conversation about starting a GoFundMe for him....)
Now, here's the cool part—Mike's not just a dad; he's a musician. Animals love him, and he's all about them too. Beach lover, bike rider, and before life threw a curveball, he was the best pool boy around, loving every splash of it.
Little did we know that these passions and vibrant aspects of his life would face an unexpected challenge on November 12th, 2023—the day that marked one of the scariest moments in my life. The night prior my dad texted me about what he was experiencing and then stopped replying. On the 12th, I went to go wellness check him. This is the first time I've ever seen my dad like this. He was very weak and experiencing double vision. But due to the absence of health insurance, it deterred him from seeking medical attention. He was praying he'd just get better.
As days passed, his condition deteriorated. His eye, captured in the image, was turned inward, intensifying his double vision. He lost feeling in his left leg and faced repeated falls. The breaking point came on November 18th when I had to call an ambulance after his third fall that day. In the emergency room, the doctor discovered that my dads brain was bleeding.
From there, he got sent to Halifax in Daytona where they drained the brain bleed. However, the brain surgeon in Daytona was unable to repair my dads aneurysm, leading to his transfer to Shands Hospital in Gainesville. There, they successfully repaired the aneurysm, and he spent a week in recovery.
Now back home, my dad is bravely navigating his recovery. Thankfully, the double vision has subsided, and he is able to walk. He was attending physical therapy, paying out of pocket costs, but financial constraints have halted his progress.
The funds raised here will play a crucial role in supporting my dad's aftercare, covering medical bills and essential life expenses. Regrettably, he's reaching a point where even basic costs will become unmanageable.
His survival is nothing short of a miracle, but the journey ahead requires another miracle - your support. Together, let's help my dad move forward and embrace the hope that comes with each step of recovery.
