Your Stomach Loves Us
"After seeing the video of the 65 y/o lady getting kicked and beat while people just stood by and watched, pissed me the eff off (updated: new reports show that they waited till the attacker left). That was not the first incident, and I have seen all too many posts and videos of these incidents. Except this time around I am not simply closing my browser, I am doing something about it."
Feeding communities at no-cost: with all the attacks and ridiculousness going on now, the one the thing that brings all of us together is food, especially when it is given out at no-cost.
To help bridge the divide between the Asian community and the community at-large. We are raising money to provide food at no-cost as 1. pop-up events 2. bento boxes distributed in the communities that these incidents happened in, specifically New York, and the SF Bay Area although we intend on also doing events in Colorado, Los Angeles, and beyond.
Funds will go towards supporting micro and small restaurant business owners: we have a network of individuals and business owners that we plan on working with, but it takes all of you to help make this happen. Without you, we cannot fill people’s bellies with some luv’n because you know, you will not have a lot of hate in you, when you have a belly full of food made with love. Nothing says that better than lumpia (Philippines), baozi (Chinese), dukbokki (Korean), takoyaki (Japanese), to a lot more from around the world because hate is exclusively not just an Asian thing.
Pay it forward: your contributions will help bridge the divide, along with businesses able to contribute will help other business that were hard hit by the pandemic. Helping one another out will help to keep the cycle going.
The contributions of Asians in America: we intend on communicating the contributions of Asian Americans in the civil rights movement to the building of this country in the arts, sciences, and politics through printed bento box wraps to murals.
Transparency: all expenses and costs will be documented via a Google Sheets document made public.
When: we want to have our first event prior to the end of April 2021, and we would like to have these as re-occurring in the neighborhoods with the most incidents (NY and SF Bay Area).
