Youth Climate Protesters Bail Fund

On Monday, December 10th, over 1,000 young people came together from all over the country to show politicians in Washington that we are willing to fight for our future. As popular momentum for a Select Committee on a Green New Deal builds, hundreds young people sat in offices of key Congressional leaders to demand good jobs and a livable future.
We peacefully delivered letters, we visited the offices of 53 Congresspeople, we told our stories, we sang, we chanted. We held sit-ins in the offices of key Congressional leaders demanding that they treat the climate crisis with the seriousness it deserves. Our demands:
1. Champion a Green Jobs for All platform to guarantee a job to any person who wants one to transform our society and economy over the next decade to stop climate change. Protect the lives of all working people -- black, brown, and white -- from the ravages of disaster and pollution.
2. Mandate that any Democrat in leadership must take the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge and reject campaign contributions from fossil fuel executives and lobbyists and instead prioritize the health of people and planet over industry profits.
It takes courage to put yourself on the line and subject yourself to physical, legal and financial risk for the values we hold. 100+ young people remained until they were arrested this morning.
Now our community needs to have these brave young people’s back. Join us in raising the $6,000 we need to cover these young people’s bail and legal costs.
Let’s stand with them. Let’s empower this generation to keep fighting for the future we all deserve.
A note about me: I was unable to attend the action at the last minute because of snow but my brother is involved in Sunrise and was at the demonstration. I am helping to collect funds to support the young people that were arrested today, and we have a spreadsheet with their information ready so that we can get the money distributed to them as quickly as possible.
