Get 'Youth In Flames' to Edinburgh Fringe!

Hi everyone! My name is Mimi and I am a London based actor & writer who originally grew up in Hong Kong during the 2019 protests. On behalf of Dare Theatre and as the writer/performer, I am fundraising for our upcoming play Youth In Flames premiering at Edinburgh Fringe 2025.

Youth In Flames is inspired by the courage, resilience, and stories that emerged from the Hong Kong protests. Specifically the young people who banded together to create social and political change. The events from these protests not only shaped the lives of millions but also sparked conversations about freedom, democracy, and identity. Through my own experiences of growing up in Hong Kong during 2019, interviews, and extensive research, I have weaved a narrative that not only captures a pivotal political chapter but also delves into universal themes of belonging and identity.

Not only is our play educating our audience but it is inspiring young people to take action on social injustices and create innovative work that sparks conversation.

Chaos. Rebellion. A city on the brink. But Millie’s focused on living life to the full - who wouldn’t? Amid the 2019 Hong Kong protests, one girl searches for her sense of home whilst a city fights for its own identity. A high-energy, visceral new play, inspired by real events. With original sound design blending euphoric techno and the raw intensity of a Hong Kong riot, enter Millie's world where being an outsider has always been the norm. Written and performed by Mimi Martin, she’s bold, rebellious, and impossible to resist. "I can be the foreign devil if they want."

We debuted at the Pleasance Theatre, London in October 2024 and have since grown with additional performances set across 2025. After a competitive process, we have been accepted to take up to Edinburgh Fringe for the entire month of August 2025 with Zoo Venues. https://www.zoovenues.co.uk/
