YouthPower Refrigerant Transition Project
Donation protected
We are YouthPower Climate Action, a group of Bay Area youth working to cut climate-frying emissions in HALF in the next 6 years. When we found out that refrigerant gasses trap 2000-4000 times more heat than carbon dioxide, we knew we wanted to do something about this BIG problem. (more details in this article and on our website: https://youthpowerclimateaction.org). But how??
We started out by auditing grocery store refrigerators and met the friendly people at Alameda Natural Grocery. Like most grocery stores, they had refrigerators that used R-404A, which is 3920 times worse than CO2!
Alameda Natural Grocery is willing to swap out that part of its refrigeration system, but the cost is high - around $120,000 to replace a whole wall of refrigerators. Big grocery stores can afford that, but smaller stores can’t.
So we decided to raise funds to support small Bay Area stores in upgrading their refrigerants to climate-friendly alternatives.
If you care about climate change and want to make a big difference, you can join us by donating $10 - $1,000. Together we can achieve what we can’t do alone!
