Youth Sewing Education Program
Donation protected
My wife Dawn and I own a fabric shop in the small town of Buellton, CA called The Creation Station Fabri c & Quilt Shop.
Dawn has a youth sewing program for kids 7 - 17 and LOVES to teach the kids all that she can about the art that she holds dear -- sewing. I'm really proud of her and what she has accomplished so far with the limited funds that we and the kids have.
We try to limit the expense faced by the kids since many of them don't have the funds but definitely have the drive to learn this important life skill. Some kids have siblings that also want to learn but their family can't afford the expense for all.
We can't provide the necessary supplies free of charge but we do what we can to help. In these tight financial times this has become difficult and we're asking for your help to help us raise funds for what is needed.
We've had fabric, machines and supplies donated in the past and used these whenever possible. However it is hard to watch a child struggle with limited fabric choices when perhaps the person next to them is choosing their own fabrics. Although we're grateful for the machines that have been donated, most have been less than kid friendly and expensive to repair.
Your donation will help us to provide the most productive tools and materials for our kids to have the best and most successful experience possible.
Your financial donation will help the kids and their families purchase and choose their own -- Supplies, notions and fabric.
It will also allow us to provide current kid friendly machines with speed control and a more intuitive interface as well as the ongoing machine maintenance these kid-used and abused machines will need.
Although we have a financial goal listed, this will be an ongoing need as each school year brings new children to us with new needs.
There is nothing more special to my wife than watching the kids problem solve and find solutions. Sewing acts as a practical application allowing kids to figure things out and put a project together. It is an individual skill that doesn't require athletic ability which means that kids that might feel left out can find an outlet for creativity and have fun doing it. Sewing builds pride by allowing kids to build something on their own.
So please help my wife continue to help the kids in our area learn to sew and tap into their creative selves!
Thank you.
