Queen Alice Hiatt

On May 28th, 2018, Alice Hiatt had a very severe stroke. When the stroke first happened, she lost all movement in the right side of her body, was unable to focus her eyes on people, stand up, or even swallow. She spent about two months in the hospital and thankfully is back home. Although she has made some progress in regaining the ability to function in her daily life, she suffers from expressive aphasia, a condition that impairs language, affecting her production and comprehension of speech and the ability to read and write. It does not affect her intelligence. She also suffers from apraxia, which is the inability to perform a movement or task when asked despite having the desire and physical capability to carry it out. How much she can really understand is impossible to know. She also suffers from some memory loss and we are not sure when, and if, she will be able to work again. She will require 24 hour care and ongoing rehabilitation therapy for the foreseeable future. She is now enrolled in a conversation class and will be starting an intensive speech and language class on October 1st. We will also start her soon on private speech therapy at her house. Donations will help to pay for these classes as well as her special dietary needs and medical supplies, as well as various apps and computer programs for therapy.

Alice has always spent her time helping others. She has consistently dropped everything and rushed to the side of family and friends to help physically, emotionally, and financially whenever they have been in need. She founded and has run a non-profit for many years to bring school supplies, medical equipment, and construction materials to small villages in Tanzania. She is dedicated to lifting people up both in her personal life and around the world and now she needs your help.

Alice has an incredible fighting spirit and continues to try to push forward. This has proven to be the biggest fight of her life. She needs very expensive rehabilitation therapy as well as 24 hour care. We ask for any help as the cost of care and therapy far exceeds what the family can afford.

Thank you so much for your kind support of Alice as she fights to recover from this devastating health event. We appreciate all of you who have donated and who send your thoughts, good energy, and prayers. Because this is ongoing, whatever you can give is very helpful for her recovery. Thank you in advance from Alice's family.
