Help Recover Costs For Bond Payment to NYC Courts

Hello everyone,

We are writing to ask for your help covering the costs of a forfeited bail bond.

We are NYC abolitionist organizers. Last year, we co-signed $50,000 bond for a friend named Malik who was being targeted at the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center, also known as "The Boat," because of his political activities, including whistleblowing about COVID conditions. He had also been organizing with Eyes on You Community Group, a group that has been working to close NYC jails, release prisoners, and hold DOC, COBA, and BOC accountable.

Unfortunately, this past week Malik missed his court date. The court issued a warrant for his arrest and ordered the bond forfeited--meaning, that we are now responsible for covering the entire $50,000 bond. We are asking for assistance in covering these costs, which place a huge burden on us financially and emotionally.
