Ystradgynlais Welfare Ground Lease Fundraiser
Want to join me in making a difference? We are raising money to benefit YSTRADGYNLAIS COMMUNITY WELFARE GROUND ASSOCIATION, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
100 Years Have Passed
For the past 100 years, the community of Ystradgynlais have enjoyed using the Welfare Ground Playing Fields not only for playing tennis, bowls, cricket, football and rugby, but the grounds have also played their part in hosting carnivals and festivals over the years. Many still enjoy walking around the open spaces provided by this outstanding facility that, for most of, has always just been there.
Many of us have never really considered who owns the grounds, assuming that it is all owned and run by Ystradgynlais RFC or Powys Council, but this is not the case. In fact, the land was leased to the community for 100 years and that lease is about to expire.
Behind the scenes volunteers have negotiated a new lease at the incredible rate of just £2000 per annum, but there is one catch; the lease must be paid 50 years in advance. It will come as no surprise to learn that county or town councils are unable to fund this in the present climate, which leads to a stark conclusion.
The community of Ystradgynlais needs to raise £100,000 as quickly as possible or risk losing all of these wonderful facilities.
It is a daunting and ambitious task, but we believe that the people of Ystradgynlais can meet this challenge together.
With the raising of funds in mind, a charity – created and run by volunteer trustees – has been set up specifically to secure and fund the lease.
Unfortunately, grant funding from sources such as the national lottery etc. is not available to purchase leaseholds, and so this challenge falls to the people of Ystradgynlais. The idea of our town losing this wonderful community sports facility is too tragic to contemplate.
Please donate what you can to save our playing fields. We would warmly welcome fundraising events, sponsorship events and any and all opportunities that we know our vibrant and creative community can dream up to raise these desperately needed funds.
