We are faced with severe water damage caused by incorrectly installed cavity wall and loft insulation. We are in the midst of potentially a life-threatening situation we could really use your help!
I am a single parent of three children, we are survivors of domestic abuse and I suffer from PTSD which significantly impacts my life.
After taking advice, I thought my property would benefit from a top up of insulation in my attic. I had seen the Government green initiative advertised providing grants for Cavity wall and loft insulation which I was eligible for. I googled Government grants and companies that would conduct the work. I chose InstallersUK after reading the numerous positive reviews.
The 5th January 2021 a surveyor for a firm attended my property, when he inspected my loft, he ripped down a certificate that was attached to the rafters stating that I didn't need it and that I wouldn't be able to have the insulation fitted if it was still there!
April 2021, I had cavity wall and loft Insulation fitted by InstallersUK. I wasn’t given any paperwork explaining after care, who to contact if there are any issues or a warranty at the time of insulation and didn’t receive any through the post. I didn't need Cavity Wall Insulation replacement however I was bulldozed into having the work done.
Since April 2021 we have been living a Nightmare! Very shortly after having the insulation fitted damp appeared and very quickly developed throughout the house. I had water running down the walls and still have!
Firm1 refused to acknowledge and deal with insulation damage and our entire home and everything we own is now infested with black and white mold.
Firm1 went into liquidation and then I found out another firm, Firm2 was actually recorded as the Funder under the Government ECO scheme and were also registered as the installers on the guarantee, but they have also refused to admit any liability.
Nearly three years of living in these horrific conditions and damp damage to my property has had a detrimental effect, the damage and mold throughout the house is extensive, with thick black mould covering parts of every room from floor to ceiling. The decay, mold and rot in the wood go all the way through the house, causing the wooden floor to lift, I have cracks on every wall, ceiling, skirting board and door frame, I have damp in my wardrobes, the pebble dash has come away from the outside of my property due to the severe water damage, therefore letting more water into the property the house needs absolutely gutting. Furniture had been affected beyond repair, With the damp surrounding the electrics our situation is potentially 'life-threatening'.
The detrimental effects it has had on our mental health and physical health. We are all permanently ill, especially my 6-year-old daughter who has asthma and constantly on steroids and antibiotics for her chest and my 5-year-old son who has severe eczema all intensified by the damp. We are all sleeping in one bedroom as albeit it is covered in damp it is the least infested out of all the rooms, my 15-year-old daughter has to share a bedroom with myself and her two younger siblings. We are all sleeping on the floor because our beds were full of damp and had to be disposed of! We don't have curtains or blinds up in the property as they were full of damp, and I have had to rip the carpets up as the damp was even in the underlay. Our bedding is wet to touch as are our clothes. The house is absolutely freezing!
We are unaware of exactly the extent of the problem, Alan Hoey of Oscar onsite set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for repairs and raise some funds to allow me to take legal action against Firm2
I am now faced with having to repair all of this damage myself with a lack of financial resources with the high cost of living and the hardships we all face in this current economy, just trying to survive our day-to-day lives.
It is with a very heavy heart that I even ask for help. I ask that you please help in any way you can; even just sharing our story will help out immensely.
