70, of St Petersburg, passed away with family present on Oct. 17, 2015 after a hard battle with cancer. The daughter of Dean and Jeanette Heistand was born in Middletown, OH. She was a graduate of Florida State University and the University of South Florida. She touched many lives as a caring and dedicated school teacher for 42 years, and as a Sunday school teacher for 41 years. Most of her career was at Gulf Coast Christian School and Shorecrest Preparatory School. She was a kind and generous women whose life revolved around her family, church and teaching. She is survived by her husband, Gordon E. Bassford; her daughter, Sarah L. Bull; her sons, James G. Bassford and Joseph D. Bassford; grandchildren, Kolby, Sydney, Sophie and Kloe Bull, and Addison and Kaitlyn Bassford. Shirley was a wonderful wife and an amazing mother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Alpha Chi Chapter. There will be a memorial service to honor her life Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2 pm at Northwest Church of Christ, 6355 38th Ave N, St Petersburg.
This fund has been established to honor her dedication to serving the community and to the lives she has touched during her teaching career. A memorial brick will be placed in her name at Shorecrest Preparatory School, and the donations will be directed toward the continuing education of her fellow friends and future teachers of the Shorecrest community.
