Helping Lia go home ❤️

Hi, everyone. My name is Heather and most of you know about my aunt Lia. She was extremely hesitant to let me start this fundraiser, but she realizes she really needs help to get her life back.

As of right now, she left her home 920 days ago.

On May 2, 2021, she was extremely sick and thought it was the flu. A normal pulse ox reading is 99 or 100. When she checked it, it read 42. She would have died at home that day.

The ambulance took her to the hospital where she tested positive for Covid 19.

Five days later they ended up putting her on the ventilator for 30 days.

I was told many, many times that she needed a lung transplant, and that I should make the decision of taking her off life support. I refused because I know how strong she is.

While on the ventilator, we believe she suffered a spinal stroke. She was paralyzed from the shoulders down. A trach was placed so she could breathe and she was on oxygen 24/7 for a long time.

She had to relearn how to use her hands and learn to walk again.

She was in the hospital from May 2. 2021 until the end of March 2022 where she was transferred to a skilled nursing facility. She is still there where she just celebrated her 3rd birthday away from home.

She is finally approved for housing but she will need funds for medical equipment and every day living until disability begins hopefully in the beginning of 2024. Unfortunately, nothing moves quickly when it comes to disability.

She has a very long road of recovery ahead of her but she is eager to live on her own again!

She has always been extremely independent and self-employed for 36 1/2 years as a daycare provider. She’s taken care of so many children over the years and many of them are now adults. It’s our turn to help take care of her.
