Helping Summer After Brain Surgery
Donation protected
On November 23rd 2022, Summer made the decision to drive 9 hours to visit her parents for Thanksgiving, after working a 12 hour shift. On the last 15 minute stretch of the drive, she fell asleep behind the wheel, hit a side wall and the car in-front of her. Summer endured a neck injury from whiplash, which she still deals with today. As she was being seen in the hospital, they wanted to get a CT scan of her brain to make sure there was not any damage. On that scan, we found a brain lesion that was there prior to the accident. She immediately was referred to a neurosurgeon, where they scheduled surgery for January 5th. Surgery went well but her muscles were very weak and eventually she developed a stutter in her speech. She is still struggling with daily headaches and continues to work through this new change but has run out of options, financially. At the time of surgery, she was not covered under short term disability with her insurance. Summer was unaware this is a benefit you needed to add on and pay into, prior to surgery. She has been denied by insurance 5 times. She has been without pay since December 22nd. As you could imagine, the bills have piled up, like living expenses and medical bills. Summer is currently still in therapy, and has not been cleared to return to work. Anything and everything helps to get summer back on her feet and alleviate the financial stress she has been under. We appreciate anyone who took the time to read her story.
