Hi, my name is Aubrey. My mother is Yvonne and she has COPD (chronic obtrusive pulmonary disease). She also has type 2 diabetes, asthma, and regularly uses three liters of oxygen to breathe. Due to her condition, she's always going to the emergency room. She's usually admitted to the hospital for pneumonia or another type of respiratory infection.

It's only February of 2024, but my mom has already been to the hospital on three seperate occasions this year. She usually stays for at least a week so she can receive antibiotics through an IV until the infection clears. Her insurance doesn't cover all the costs, so there's always a hefty balance remaining.

Because she needs 24-hour care, she returns to a senior living facility upon being discharged. This cycle begins with new prescriptions (which adds to her already lengthy med list), primary and pulmonary follow-up visits, physical therapy, home health care, etc. Her living and medical expenses outweigh her fixed income. My mother's chronic condition has taken an emotional and financial toll on the whole family.
