First of all, I’d like to thank you for all of the love & support you have shown me over the years, how you’ve supported me on my journey of healing & discovering my identity & freedom in Christ & for the blessing you’ve been in my life. When I reflect on how far I’ve come in the past few years, I am in awe of how God has transformed my heart & the trajectory of my life through this pursuit of studying God & missions. You have played a significant role in this.
THE UPDATE
In December 2020 I completed my training at YWAM Denver in the WISE program (Worship-Intercession-Spiritual Warfare-Evangelism. During this time, I learned to Worship the way God wants to receive it & how scripture instructs us to usher his presence into the atmosphere & bring him glory, honor, thanksgiving & praise. Through Intercession I have begun to ask Jesus how he is already praying for a situation & partner with him in praying in accordance with his will for myself, others, territories & the world at large to bring his Kingdom here. My perspective of Spiritual Warfare has been forever transformed & I am learning to find fullness living in the tension of the spiritual & the natural. I’ve continued to grow in my understanding of the cost of discipleship & my heart for Evangelism, comprehending the urgency of the calling God has for all of to go & make disciples. All of these topics have further propelled my desire to continue on this path of understanding what I believe, why I believe it & how best to communicate that with others.
THE WHY
My anthem in this season has been to be a student, & to LIVE BIG, respecting that you can’t take anyone further than you’ve gone yourself. As I am learning & growing, I am continually looking for & am presented with opportunities to share the gospel & the knowledge & wisdom God has bestowed upon me with others. In this comes a heavy reverence of knowing what I am sharing & teaching is accurate in biblical contexts. One of my deepest fears is leading others astray & causing more damage than good in misrepresenting the word of God & negatively impacting others relationships with him. The more conversations I have, the more I am confronted with the difficult complexities of scripture that elude me & propel me to search for more answers & understanding for myself & others. The more I realize how little I know about the bible & ultimately God & where I lack in my abilities to understand. At this point I have far more questions than answers, but trust I am right where I’m supposed to be.
THE WHAT
I believe the next step in this process for me is diving into the bible to gain a greater depth of relationship & revelation of scripture & ultimately God & how to apply his truths to our present-day society. This has led me to seek out a bible school with YWAM. Up until this point I have attended YWAM primarily in Denver to mitigate costs & maintain my health with ease. However, in my last program I felt that this season with YWAM Denver has ended. While grieved, I believe that the Lord is intent on expanding my biblical world view that is rooted in the West & I am eager to get a different perspective. I have just been accepted to the YWAM Amsterdam School of Biblical Studies (SBS) which is a nine-month program from September 12th - July 4th for those who want to learn how to study the 66 books of the bible in a greater depth. During this time, I will read the bible at least four times & study each book to learn how to interpret & explain the meaning, apply it to our own lives & understand what shapes our beliefs as followers of Christ. Topics we will explore include: Basic hermeneutical principles, inductive word study, literature types, chronology of events in the Old and New Testaments, significant historical background, how to use maps, the concordance, bible dictionary, interlinear, etc., how to think epistemologically, how to find answers for myself.
THE NEED
This is an intimidating, challenging undertaking as I will be studying 40+ hours a week in community living processing the complexities of scripture daily.
