Support the Sandbach 1805 Ramblers 3 Peak Challenge
Thank you for taking the time to visit our Instagram/GoFundMe Page. Chris & Simon have been close friends for over 20 years. In the last few years they have unfortunately both been through some extremely difficult life experiences. In 2019 Simon’s Dad, Les, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Unfortunately Les lost his fight with MND in 2021. More recently Chris was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in Sept 2022. Chris had a major operation to remove the tumour and as a result has a stoma. Following his operation and 3 months of Chemo, Chris was thankfully given the all clear in Feb 2024.
*The Challenge*
Simon and Chris, along with 26 of their friends and family, will be embarking on completing the UK 3 Peaks Challenge over the weekend of 6th-8th September………Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowden.
*The Charities*
MND affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time. There is a 1 in 300 risk of getting MND across a lifetime. It can affect adults of any age, but is more likely to affect people over 50. MND is life-shortening and there is no cure. Although the disease will progress, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life.
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer and second biggest cancer killer in the UK. However, it shouldn't be because it is treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early and there have been major advances in treatments and bowel cancer screening programmes in recent years.
Both the MND Association and Bowel Cancer UK research, improve care and provide support for people with MND or Bowel Cancer, and for their families and carers.
