Help Kennedy Dance in NY & LA

Hello!

My name is Kennedy Wright, I am a fourth-year student at Kennesaw State University where I am double majoring in Dance and Business Management. I am a very hard-working and dedicated student for both my disciplines as I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my four years in college and have been as equally committed to the dance department as I have been to my academics.

This year the dance department is hosting a week-long intensive dance program in New York in May 2024. As I am entering the closing chapters of my college career, this program is crucial in helping me best map out my next steps. The trip includes daily classes, workshops, and panels with the renowned Gibney Dance Company which is based in the city. Additionally, I will have the opportunity to attend open classes at Steps On Broadway (a well-known and respected space for artists to train), take a masterclass from the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance, and watch performances from the acclaimed New York City Ballet along with a Broadway production. On top of that, I will also have the opportunity to network with KSU alumna currently working in the field and gain insight from them. As I said, this trip will be pivotal in helping me prepare for my life professionally, mentally, physically, and socially as I strive to increase my dance network.

I also was fortunate enough to get into a two-week summer intensive hosted by the nationally acclaimed dance company BODYTRAFFIC located in Los Angeles. In this program, I will get the chance to work with the company’s faculty, take classes, learn repertory, and participate in an end-of-program showcase. Additionally, I will be able to learn more about the professional dance scene in LA and experience it firsthand as I start mapping out what my future could look like post-graduation.

Cumulatively, both programs cost $5,100 which is the amount I will need to raise by the end of March to cover tuition alone for both programs. So far, I have $2,100 to go towards these fees, including my personal savings and scholarships received, but need your help to raise the remaining $3,000.
