Our situation:
Our home and vehicles were damaged and totaled by a flash flood. It was at 2 feet inside our homes and 3 feet in our cars. We do not live in a flood plain. The rain just came down so fast and the storm brewed on top of us that our drainage systems didnt keep up. We were extreamly blessed to have our bedrooms upstairs but can no longer live in them because of mold dangers. Our kitchen and living area was flooded.
We were in the process of buying a house on the other end of town when the flood hit. All our funds and savings are wrapped up in completing that process. We have three weeks till that closing date and have repairs to do in order to close on the new house. We can not take a secure loan (where you put your cars as collateral) because our cars are flood damaged/ totaled. We can not take a unsecured loan untill the house purchase is complete because it can make the home loan fall through. We were told by our loan officer we can accept gifts but would never want to inconvience our family this much. (This is set up by Amanda's mom so that only if anyone wants to and can help.)
Our landlord did not have flood insurance and renters insurance is not the same as flood; it is a separate policy that we did not think we needed. We are kenneling our animals and are looking to live in a camper at an RV park a mile away. Our family is 75 miles away and we still have to go to work.
Our surrounding 6 neighbors homes were damaged as well and 3 are also displaced. We would like to help them when we get back on our feet. We will have four extra rooms in the new house and want to help our neighbors get back on thier feet and live in a DRY home again.
