Sean Kent's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
My son, Sean Kent was injured in a dirt biking accident on June 6, 2020, near Grass Valley, CA.  He injured his spine and broke three ribs.  He is now experiencing paralysis from the chest down.  After his injury Sean was care-flighted to Sutter, Roseville where he underwent emergency spinal fusion surgery.

We are staying positive that it's possible that Sean will be able to achieve a partial or full recovery with lots of love and support.  We need to be able to give him the opportunity to put his whole self into this recovery.

His recovery program will require 3-4 months of rehab at a spine trauma center.  We are communicating closely with his doctors and hospital coordinators to find a rehabilitation facility that will work for Sean.

As of right now, Sean is still in ICU at Sutter, Roseville and should be released in 4-10 days, and then will need to be moved to a recovery center to start his road to recovery.
Sean is in good spirits and has been slowly understanding his situation. In the last couple of days he has been sitting up and practicing movement in his wheelchair.  He has been amazing us all through this process with his mindfulness, honesty and self-acceptance. However the journey ahead of him is going to be strenuous at best and making sure he gets the best care is step one to seeing Sean make it through this with a smile on his face.

Any of us who know Sean know that he is an adventure athlete in the skies, waters, mountains and cities. He is a certified sky diver and ski team instructor. He mountain bikes, rock climbs, river rafts, practices yoga, swims and snowmobiles. He has astonished and encouraged us all in the outdoors.  He has touched so many lives with his big heart and kind words and loud laugh. He doesn't judge and deserves the opportunity for the best care and medical support as his road to recovery will be a long one.

Sean has always been about spreading love to everyone and now is our chance to send some love back.  Please help out however you can to help Sean and his family with expenses and energy during this time.

All funds will be used for Sean's treatment.  They will be transferred directly into a trust that is being set up to support Sean's expenses at Wells Fargo.

Thank you for supporting Sean's recovery.

Update: 6/25/2020: WOW! Thank you all for the love and support you've given to Sean and our family the last couple of weeks. Sean is feeling more like himself and has been released from the Sutter ICU. On Tuesday we were able to help him move to a fabulous recovery facility called Craig Hospital in Denver, CO. There he will have physical therapy, occupational therapy, group therapy and take lots of classes and find lots of support to learn to adapt to his new life in his wheelchair.

He still has months of recovery ahead of him and there is still a lot to learn for all of us, but Sean's strength and positive attitude has been an inspiration to us all. His ribs are slowly healing and he is able to eat food again - all good news! He will be at Craig Hospital likely between 2-3 months and from there we will get our boy back to Reno to continue the recovery and healing process.

Our family could not have made it through this time without the kindness, grace and warmth that our community and SEAN'S community have offered us. You are all such beautiful humans and we are lucky to know you. Thank you all.
