My sister, Doreen, and her son were driving from Los Angeles to Seattle, WA with all her current possessions in the car to start a new life after the tragic death of her 53 year old husband, Lee, last year. Her son and her were driving through San Francisco and stopped to get something to eat. They parked their car and when they returned, they found the windows smashed and all items stolen from the car. She had all her ID documents, clothes, computer, medications and personal items stolen. They took everything! Since the death of her husband, Doreen has endured major set backs and difficulties, not only financially, but of course emotionally and physically.
Since the death of her husband March of 2019, Doreen has lived as a nomad, living out of a suitcase, and hasn't been able to find employment. Following the sudden death of her husband (Lee died in his sleep), she had to vacate her apartment and leave her job in Palm Springs. She spent 8 months last year in Florida tending to my extremely mentally ill mother who has been in and out of the hospital countless times, surviving two severe falls and brain surgery as a result of one of those falls. My sister had to move my mom from a rehab facility, and three different assisted living facilities within a 6 month time frame due to my mom's severe anxiety, which the facilities were not able to handle. We were finally able to get her Medicaid approved and found a nursing home facility to care for my mom. Doreen moved back early this year, right before Covid hit, to try and start a new life in Seattle where her son lives. Since then she has been trying to find employment and the right place to live. After staying in Seattle for a month, she came back to Los Angeles where she lived most of her life, to be near me and my family and try to find an apartment and job. She stayed with me for a month with no luck with employment and finding an affordable apartment. She did find a low income apartment in Fullerton and was ready to move in on the 10th of this month, but the low income approval fell through and she couldn't afford the higher rent they wanted to charge. Her son was able to find a low income apartment complex in Seattle and after much contemplation and prayer, she decided to move back to Seattle and try to get approved for this apartment. she packed all her current belongings in her car (most of her belongings have been in storage since the death of Lee when she had to move out of her apartment) to drive to Seattle and that is when her car was broken into and everything stolen.
Doreen has been on disability and unemployment since the death of her husband. She suffers from anxiety and depression, and through her faith, counseling and medication, is trying disparately to start a new life without her soul mate. Since the unemployment federal aid has stopped, she is in financial distress until she can find a job. With all her things stolen, she now needs to buy clothes and personal items. That is why I started this Go Fund Me page to financially help Doreen buy clothes and items she needs. My sister is so broken right now, financially and emotionally. I am asking for financial help as well as prayer for strength, for an apartment and employment. I know with prayer and faith, she will get through this! I thank you in advance for your prayers and donations.
