This Family Needs Our Help

On the night of March 6, 2018 our dear friend Mohammad Fawad Mohammadi was the victim of an unspeakable crime. He and his family were in Lincoln City, Oregon, when they were involved in what seemed to be a relatively minor traffic accident: another car collided with theirs as they exited a restaurant parking lot. When Fawad and his wife stepped out of the car to investigate the damage, the other driver backed up then accelerated toward them. Fawad was able to push his wife to safety, but bore the entire force of the crash with his own body. Inexplicably and without warning, the driver backed up and drove at him again. This time Fawad was able to roll his body out of the way and call to his wife to get their baby out of the car and run.

Fawad had to be taken by Life Flight to a trauma center in Portland. He underwent surgery immediately in an attempt to repair his leg which was severely crushed. Currently it appears that he is suffering from the crushed leg, broken hips, fractured spine and numerous facial injuries. At this writing he is undergoing a second surgery to save the leg. The doctors have prepared him for the high likelihood that the surgery will not be successful.

Fawad came to the U.S. a little over three years ago from his native Afghanistan, where he served as an interpreter for the U.S. Military for four years, often in the thick of battle. He made a lasting impression and was sponsored to come to the U.S. Shortly after he arrived he began working in the Lambs/Bales Marketplaces. He married and he and his wife were blessed with a lovely baby boy, who is now 18 months old. He is the sole breadwinner while his wife has remained at home caring for their son. He is still employed in the Deli/Catering department of the Lake Oswego Lambs/Bales Marketplace where he has been an extremely diligent and capable worker and is loved by all. In fact, Fawad is loved by everyone he meets. He always has a smile and exudes joy. He loves to share meals, music and dancing with friends. We are devastated that he has fought so hard to raise his family in a safe, happy place, only to have their lives changed instantly in such a brutal way.

Fawad’s life and the life of his family has forever been changed. The road to recovery is going to be a long hard battle, and we are seeking funds to support Fawad in this battle in any way that can reduce the suffering and damage visited on his family in this horrible and tragic way.
