No Seabee Left Behind

A very near and dear Seabee Sister is in great need of help.  2013 she stepped in a liggett hole during field exercises and seriously hurt her foot.  After almost two years of misdiagnosis and delay after delay in decision making - surgery was authorized. Prior to this delay she was a full time Nursing student in an honors program.  During this delay, she was unable to complete her clinicals for the Nursing program due to her inability to fully stand, walk and function completely and lost her seat in the program.  Because of the lengthy delay in getting the surgery, she suffered severe nerve damage from bones rubbing in her foot. After surgery she suffered severe infection and now faces the very strong possibilty of amputation.

From 2013 to now, 2015, she has been unable to work.  Her car payments are behind, her rent is behind and she faces eviction this month.  Her family lives off food pantry donations and there is no movement in VA/Navy medical decisions on amputation or medical classification.  She is continually medically extended by the Navy until final decisions are made.  She is not eating, not sleeping and extremely stressed out trying to provide for herself and her son and daughter.

Mary has completed a mountain of paperwork applying for various financial aid, community aid, military aid only to be told she does not qualify because a) she is still under a military contract (medical extension), b) she is not active duty (she is reservist), c) and various other crazy reasons for why she does not qualify.  The VFW was able to help till they ran into funding issues.  Her teenage son gave up his Christmas money to help buy food and her oldest daughter is adding in money from her employment to try to maintain their single vehicle and cell phone bill.  Without a cell phone or form of communication, the Navy can ADSEP her as well.

Her situation is compounded by the fact that her teenage son was recently injured and suffers from torn knee cartilage, fluid on the knee and a possible torn ACL.  He is currently on crutches awaiting possible surgery and any number of doctor appointments.  For obvious reasons, she has no medical insurance and is very concerned about additional medical expenses for her son.

Mary has been a vital member of NMCB 25 for 8 years.  She was a top dog for the Alfa Company 3M program maintaining this program from the top down through various Battalion and Construction Force inspections.  She has always been a go-getter of the highest caliber mentoring junior troops and taking it on the chin, doing whatever was asked or needed to ensure NMCB 25 was ready and able to pass inspections and be 100% mobilization ready with zero complaints.  She has always been there for her fellow Seabees and very rarely would you not see a huge smile on her face.  The Seabees have been her life for 8 years and I know she was torn not mobilizing with us last year.

Please help to bring the smile back to her face.  She has suffered tremendously these past two years with her own medical challenges as well as the death of her father and the heart and medical problems of her mother.  This woman truly needs a break and some sunshine in her life!  Please support a Seabee Sister.  No donation is too small.
