Today an article was published sharing Diamond "Ellie" Puentes' story; after all the positive responses, many people have asked if there are ways to help. The answer to that is yes. As friends of Ellie, we have seen first-hand the injustices she has faced when dealing with the Union College administration, and we have set up this Go Fund Me Page.We are making this Go Fund Me for anyone that can help support her as she is trying with her best efforts to find the proper legal assistance to figure out the best course of action. Also, Ellie has been told she won't be receiving money back from the spring term she has now not been able to attend. Despite having two doses of the Pfizer vaccine and a medical exemption from her primary care physician advising Ellie, it would not be in her best interest to receive a booster, Union made her choose between her health and her education. Ellie was thriving in the Union community before receiving the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Ellie went above and beyond to be a valuable part of the Union Community. She extended her time and effort by serving as an Orientation Advisor and more. Ellie was prepared to continue to immerse herself in the Union experience by taking on a research project over the summer in which she would remain on campus and work. Following that, she was also prepared to embark on her fall trimester abroad in Argentina. Being a first-generation student, Ellie has worked her entire life to receive a college education, not only for herself but also for her family. She should not have been put in this situation that reaped her of these opportunities. Ellie loves her professors and so many of her peers. She would hate for this decision to be made by people who don't know her personally. Let's all get together and try our best to get Ellie back on-campus healthy and respected!
