Ollie’s emergency surgery

Hi, I'm Hailey, and I am raising funds for Ollie, our fourteen-week-old golden retriever/german shepherd puppy. We got him the day he turned eight weeks old on September twenty-ninth and noticed almost immediately that he was having frequent diarrhea, vomiting, and blood in his stool. We already had him into his primary vet by October 2 for these complications. Since then, we have taken him to the vet four other times for these same issues until the most recent vet visit this past Friday.

On November tenth, we took him to his vet again because we noticed how alarmingly skinny and lethargic he was becoming. They immediately took him to get an ultrasound and x-ray done, where they found something in his stomach they described as a mass they could feel by touch. From there, we were sent to the closest emergency animal hospital with space for him, which ended up being six hours from home.

Once we arrived at the pet hospital, they did more imaging and examination, returning an intussusception diagnosis. This is where part of the intestine telescopes in and out of itself and can cause his symptoms to come and go until it gets stuck. The vet decided to keep him overnight this past Friday for surgery. In this surgery, they removed part of his cecum, intestine, and colon. After the surgery, they sent out the collected specimen to Texas A&M so they could pathologically evaluate it for any known cause. However, they are not typically able to find a reason.

Ollie's long-term complications are unknown as of right now until he heals. His surgery was something none of us were ready for financially, but when it comes to saving a member of our family, we are going to try everything we can. We hate to ask for help covering his medical expenses, but this was a sudden hit for us. We are extremely appreciative; every little bit helps.
