Kenya Sustainability: OTEPIC

My name is Dawn Griffin. I had the privilege to meet Philip Munyasia when he was an intern at Ecology Action in Willits, CA learning GROW BIOINTENSIVE methods with John Jeavons. That was about 8 years ago.

Philip founded the OTEPIC project upon his return to Kenya (Organic Technology Extension & Promotion of Initiative Centre). I have followed his progress over the years and it is nothing short of amazing, given what he has had to work with.  His commitment to educating and empowering not only his community, but others in Africa as well, is like the "little engine who could." They are turning desertified lands into productive, verdant food forests. Teaching energy efficiency methods with biogas cookers and rocket stoves, which prevents further deforestation and saves much effort for the young girls typically charged with collecting wood. There is so much more to say, but your real inspiration will come from visiting their website and browsing around. www.otepic.org

The current funding request of $6,000 is for a water project. The community has hand dug a well and ponds and the funds will enable them to purchase pumps, tanks, pipes and solar panels. Additionally, they will create a basement for the tanks and housing structures for other installations.

You can “like” them and follow their progress on Facebook under Otepic Kenya Project: https://www.facebook.com/search/str/otepic+kenya+project/keywords_top

It is my great joy to be a part of this inspiring project. Please join me in helping their good work to continue.
