Corona Solidarity Campaign
Donation protected
Awami Workers Party (AWP) whilst engaging with other citizens and organizations have initiated a Corona solidarity campaign to support those worst hit by the coronavirus emergency in Islamabad, including day laborers and katchi abadi residents. We will be supporting them with rations & hygiene products as well as awareness on covid prevention
During this time of need the most vulnerable, ones that don't have the luxury of work from home, daily wage earners and laid off workers without a source of income are affected the most. Donate generously to support our efforts to ensure their survival in these trying times.
Corona Solidarity Campaign is not a charity campaign , it’s a solidarity campaign. It’s people of the city extending the solidarity to the workers who build our cities, who run our cities and our lives. This is a part of extending radical compassion in difficult times towards each other. We are doing this because we owe this to ourselves and humanity. This is not a charity, zakaat or sadqa. This is humanity and a political decision to stand together as people in times that the world is facing. Solidarity and empathy is the essence of humanity.
Just like the healthcare workers, the governments and the policy makers are doing their best, we as people are trying to fill in the gaps where we think we can.

In solidarity,
The people of the corona solidarity campaign
Our plan for ensuring campaign’s donations reaches to intended recipients along with an explanation of how the funds will be spent is below
We are providing essential food packages to daily wagers in Pakistan who are currently at a loss of income.
Who are these daily wagers?
With all economic activity grinding to a halt and a shutterdown across the nation comes the added uncertainty and desperation faced by the daily wagers due to the loss of their livelihoods. We have around 48 slums in Islamabad alone, with around 300 families in each slum surviving solely on the wage they received before this lockdown. In these abysmal and trying times faced by these vulnerable and less fortunate families we have decided to start a campaign who’s mission is to provide food packages to as many households of daily wagers/workers as possible.
These daily wagers consist of roadside sweepers, brick kiln workers, roadside fruit/vegetable vendors, female factory workers, kiosk owners and workers, waiters, garbage collectors etc. Earning a daily wage that previously barely put two daily meals on the table for their families, they now face the uncertainty of how to provide even that.
We will also be providing essential PPE packages to the vulnerable frontline healthcare proffessionals who do not have appropriate personal protective equipment and as a result many doctors and nurses have already been effected by corona virus.
These frontline healthcare professionals which include senior consultants, doctors, nurses and hospital staff are our first and foremost defence against Covid-19 and are putting their own lives at risk along with their families and loved ones lives at risk. As such i believe it is our responsibility to provide them with as much protection as possible in such a dangerous and at risk work environment.
For this campaign we have partnered up with local civil society members, social workers and community organisers who are already actively providing food packages to these vulnerable families and PPE packages to the frontline healthcare workers.
We have the network in place to distribute these food and care packages amongst the slums of Islamabad/Rawalpindi
Which is providing PPE (personal protection equipment), N95 masks, glove, disinfectant and hand sanitiser to frontline healthcare workers across Pakistan in public hospitals. From which three institutions have already been successfully provided with said equipment.
Providing PPE across Punjab and have covered almost 410 healthcare workers so far.
Amongst others.
Each food package provides for a family of 6 for up-to a month and consists of;
1. Atta/flour 20kg
2. Rice 5kg
3. Assorted Lentils and pulses 6kg
4. Oil pouches 2kg
5. Sugar 5kg
6. Salt 1.5kg
7. Dry milk 500 grams
8. Tea 600 grams
9. Dettol soap 6 bars
Cost for each food and care package:
$22-25 depending on the availability of goods and price variations.
Process of provision of food and care packages;
Delivery of the provisions varies depending on the accessibility to the area; In Islamabad, the money is transferred to the government-run utility stores against the lists provided to them of the workers and daily wagers of the area.
Cost and provision of PPE:
Each PPE package will cost approximately £25-£30 which includes a hazmat suit, gloves, N95 mask, sanitiser, disinfectants and gloves which will be directly supplied to the hospitals.
We know there are thousands of people that could really benefit from this and although we may not be able to provide for each and everyone of them we are hoping to help as many as possible. As the need evolves so will our response.
Updates on the distribution of the food packages and PPE are posted periodically.
