Simpson-Golabi-Behmel Syndrome

Hi there, back in January me and my wife got married, a few weeks after we was given the fantastic news that my wife was pregnant.

We have been together for close to 6 years now and due to having been prescribed bad birth control we assumed we could not have kids.
The birth control she was on was the Nuvaring which recently has been known to cause serious side affects and permanent issues, it caused my wifes menstrual cycle to become random, after she stopped using it, with periods once every three to five months.
She stopped using the nuvaring roughly four years ago and the side affects lasted up untill she found out she was pregnant.

My wife being from the United states and Myself being from the United kingdom flew over to the UK to tell my parents the fantastic news.

We started to have baby scans as soon as possible, the first at 8 weeks, another at 12 and another at 18 weeks.
On the 19th week we flew to the UK to announce it to my parents, shortly after we booked into the hospital in the UK to have another scan, this is where we started to get the bad news.

For starters our baby girl (or so we thought) turned into a baby boy, and the scan showed an anomaly around the heart area, we were to be called back next week to see an specialist.

Going back to the hospital our fears were confirmed, the baby has been diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia,
To put it as simple as possible without trying to think about it to much as it is very upsetting for us both, the babies stomach and intestines have been pushed into the upper chest area and is putting pressure on the heart and lungs, the heart has been pushed out of place.

After speaking with the specialist he recommended not flying back to the US and staying in the UK as it could induce premature labor.

We were told shortly after my wife gives birth the baby will need surgery which could be between the first day of being born up to two weeks after being born and I would have to fund all of this including the pregnancy and the aftercare, due to the mother of the baby being from the United States.

The pregnancy itself will cost between £3,000 if its straight forward.
The aftercare will cost around £2,000 a night in the speical baby care unit, which he'll need to stay in for atleast two weeks to roughly two months.
As for the operation we have not been told how much that will cost as of yet as they still are not sure how much work will be needed to fix our baby boy.

The due date for the baby is September 11th which doesn't give us enough time to earn this kind of money without asking for help.

Thanks for reading and i hope you wish us the best of luck Simon and Elisabeth.

I will update this with as much information as I can as the time goes on.
