Bayley Elizabeth (my daughter) and her husband, Zach Patterson were expecting their first baby on August 29, 2015. However, baby Jack Weller Patterson decided to arrive 15 weeks early, the day after Mother's day, 5/11/15. Weighing in at 1lb. 12oz. and 13in. long, Jack was heli-ported to the Critical Care NICU at Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC.
Bayley had to have a C-section delivery which meant that she had to stay longer at the hospital and Jack was about an hour away. Zach and I drove down to Columbia everyday to see Jack.
After about a week Bayley was able to travel to see Jack for the first time since birth, a very emotional time. Bayley and Zach drove down every day.
Bayley ended up with an infection on her uterus that abscessed. Back in the hospital she goes to have the abscess drained and fever reduced.
Not too long after she got out of the hospital the 2nd time she had a horrible gall bladder flare up that sent her to the ER. She ended up having her gall bladder removed as outpatient surgery.
Bayley is a hair dresser at Shear Excellence in Fort Mill, SC. She was out of work for 8 weeks. No income coming in and no insurance.
Zach works for SouthPaw screen printing Co. In Rockhill, SC. He gets paid just above minimum wage and has no insurance. He was also out of work for about 2 weeks with everything going on and has since been working part time. They drive back and forth to Columbia almost everyday!
Bayley applied for SSI for Jack and Medicaid for her and Jack. Because of their income she did not get approved. Jack got approved for SSI which goes back 90 days. She has to reapply for Medicaid for both of them in 2 weeks.
Bayley owes about $90,000 to Piedmont Hospital in Rockhill due to all of her procedures! Jack's medical bills should be taken care of.
There is no way with their income that they can pay the hospital bills.
Family and friends have been helping out with purchasing gas and food cards. Some have donated money to help with rent and other bills.
Bayley is not one to really ask for help so I am asking for her.! Would you please help be her silver lining?
Jack has been progressing a little ahead of what is expected. He is now up to 3lbs. 9oz. and is almost 16in. long!!! He is on cpap to help with breathing. They take him off of the cpap to breath on his own for almost 2 hrs and he hasn't had any stat issues! Yay! His feeding tube has been moved to down his nose and they have started bottle feeding him for about 10 min each feeding. Whatever is left over he gets through his feeding tube. Because Jack got approved for SSI he should automatically be approved for Medicaid.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help you can give.
