Help for Burma

Donation protected

While sitting at home in lock down in Australia, I am seeing the dramatic deterioration of living conditions for the people in Myanmar and the humanitarian crisis that is unfolding. I appreciate that the disaster appears far away and abstract for anyone who hasn't lived in Myanmar like I have. There were many campaigns I have seen in recent years where I didn't donate as I didn't feel the sense of urgency. Please know that that is totally fine, but if you only have $5 spare, please know that this means a meal for a whole family in Myanmar.

Here are a few key facts about the situation in Myanmar that made it impossible for me to sit and do nothing:

  • The local economy has massively declined. Finding work has become extremely difficult.
  • Hunger is real! Income has plummeted, food stocks dwindle, the prices for food is rising, e.g. the price for cooking oil has more than doubled. Little children have to survive of rice mixed with cooking oil, and that is already a luxury for many. WFP estimated that within the next 6 months, over 3.4 million people will experience food insecurities.

  • Covid-19 has put a massive strain on an already very weak health system. People of all ages are dying on a daily basis and the prices for oxygen are going through the roof as it has become a scarce commodity.
  • The current monsoon season makes everything even harder. In Myanmar, the rainy season has always put people out of certain jobs and certain diseases have always been more present during the monsoon season, and right now the battle is an almost impossible one.

Raising funds to feed a few people for a little longer is all I can do from here. If you can spare a little bit of money, please know that it will mean so much for the people in Myanmar. Maybe you can make a coffee at home instead of buying one at the shops today and give this money to the people of Myanmar.

Having close contacts on the ground, I guarantee that no money will go lost and the full amount will go to feeding families below the poverty line.

Your contribution is very very appreciated.

Thank you!
