On Saturday, July 4th, 2015, our Mother had a terrible accident while taking a walk, like we have done for years, at our family cabin. While walking down to the top of the waterfall behind the cabin, she hit a spot that was all clay, and she slid down a steep cliff, roughly 300+ feet, to the bottom of the waterfall. Miraculously, she was alert and able to yell up that she was ok.
Family, local volunteers, and rescue crews spent over 2 hours trying to bring her back up to safety. Due to the severity of her injuries, an emergency helicopter was flown in to take her to the trauma center of the local hospital. Once evaluated, it was determined that she had significant internal bleeding and a fractured ankle. Our Mother has had 2 surgerys, one on her ankle, and one on her abdomen to take care of the damage to her spleen, which was completely ruptured. She has bruises, scratches, and scrapes all over her body. She also sustained an injury to her face when a large stick was embedded in her cheek. While she has sustained serious injuries due to the fall, we know how incredibly lucky she is to have survived. Dr's are amazed that she not only survived the fall, but that she survived the damage to her spleen.
Our Mother, Penny Simpson, has proven once again to be remarkably strong. If you do not know her, she is the hardest working woman there is. Without hesitation, she would give you anything you need. If she didn't have it, she would find a way to get it for you. 2 years ago, our Father suffered from a massive seizure and stroke which has left him disabled and unable to work or drive. Penny has been working to not only keep up their household, but to take care of our Father. This has been a lot to take on, but without complaint, she does it. She never takes time for herself and worries about everyone's needs before her own. She is without a doubt, the toughest woman we know.
This recent accident is putting a strain on her not only physically, but financially. Due to the severity of her injuries, she will need to be out of work for an undetermined amount of time. We want her to focus on healing and getting better for herself - not about how she is going to pay the bills this month. Our Mother would never, ever ask for help, and even we debated on starting this page for her. However, we are doing this for her, so she can focus on herself, for once. Any contribution that you can make for Mom would be greatly appreciated. All money would go right to Mom to help pay for bills; medical and living expenses. She deserves to feel the relief of not having to worry while she recovers.
We know that regardless, we are beyond lucky that she is as strong as she is and still with us! Help us help Mom!
Thank you so much!
